According to the National Cinema Center of Armenia, the Michael Goorjian-directed film “Amerikatsi,” which was a part of the SALERNO Italian International Film Festival’s official competition program, has won the award for Best Foreign Film.

Charlie, a young Armenian who fled the Armenian Genocide and found refuge in America, is the subject of the movie. His family was less fortunate. The narrative starts in 1947, when Charlie returns to Armenia after a long absence only to encounter the harsh realities of Soviet Communism. Charlie is detained and given a prison sentence almost immediately.
